Backticks is a place to write, run and annotate code. This page explains what we collect when you use it, why, and what you can do about it. We collect only what the app needs to work, we don't sell your data, and we don't show ads.
What we collect
- Your Google account basics. When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile picture. We use them to create your account and show who is signed in. We never see your Google password.
- What you create. The files, folders, code and notes you save, and your editor settings, are stored in your account so they are there next time.
- Guest work. If you use Backticks without signing in, your work is kept only in your browser. It reaches our servers only if you sign in and choose to keep it.
- Basic technical data. Your network address is used briefly to enforce fair-use limits, such as how often code can be run. Our hosting providers keep standard request logs for security and troubleshooting.
Cookies
We use only the cookies the app needs: one that keeps you signed in, and one that lets the app check requests come from a real visitor. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Who else handles your data
We rely on a few services to run Backticks. Each gets only what it needs:
- Google for sign-in.
- Convex stores your account, files and notes.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- OneCompiler receives the code you choose to run, and its input, so it can run it and send back the output.
- Websites you link to. When you paste a link, tweet or video into your notes, we fetch a preview from that site, and embedded videos load from YouTube.
How long we keep it
Your account and everything in it stays until you delete it. When you delete a file or folder, it is removed from your account. To delete your whole account and all its data, email us and we will do it within 30 days.
Your choices
You can see and edit everything you have saved in the app at any time. To get a copy of your data, correct it or delete your account, email balusekhar8@gmail.com.
Children
Backticks is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will let signed-in users know in the app.
